Dance (BTEC Technical Award in Performing Arts: Dance Pathway) Dance

As a creative art, Dance allows students to develop their knowledge, technical skills and the ability to interpret and express ideas and feelings through movement.

Subject Content

There are three assessed components:

  1. Component 1 - exploring the performing arts 30%
  2. Component 2 - developing skills and techniques in the performing arts 30%
  3. Component 3 - performing to a brief 40%

Two are internally assessed one is externally assessed. All must achieve at least a pass to pass the course overall.
Mixture of practical and theory work. Practical work is evidenced through recording of workshops. Theory work is evidenced through written assignments.

Objectives

The BTEC Dance course prepares young people for careers in performing arts/dance. It will provide a broad educational base for further training, further education or for employment within performing arts or dance. It motivates learners via applied learning and assessment and provides a good progression route to more advanced qualifications.
