Extra Curricular

“The quality of the curriculum is a strength of the school. This is supporting achievement: both personal development and academic success. The wide range of additional activities on offer, alongside the school’s sport specialism, provides students with many memorable experiences.”
OFSTED, March 2014.

At Northfield we are committed to providing an outstanding all round education for our learners. Our extra-curricular provision is a key part of this. Experiences to learn beyond the traditional classroom setting are wide and varied. These experiences give our learners the opportunity to use a range of social skills in different contexts, including working and socializing with students from different religious, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Through our extra-curricular offer, students show a willingness to participate in and respond positively to artistic, sporting and cultural opportunities.

We have a vibrant programme of cultural and study trips in this country and abroad - such as the history trip to Berlin, Dutch and Norwegian exchanges, geography visits to the Lake District, World Challenge expeditions and weekend residentials organised in year teams.

All departments run extra-curricular activities and we offer a tremendous range of clubs and after school sports from table tennis and drama to art and design, dance and music. Our staff are dedicated and give up their time freely to organise and lead these activities.

Clubs and after school activities within creative arts enhance our students' wide ranging talents and promote creativity, self-expression and personal confidence. School productions involving music, drama and dance are impressive. We are rightly proud of our students’ achievements in the arts. In 2014 the school achieved Artsmark Gold (Exemplary) status.

There is a daily study/homework club every lunchtime in the library and ICT suite.

We are an affiliated Duke of Edinburgh Centre. The programme is designed to complement and enhance citizenship and personal development of our students. The programme is now in its third year and numbers continue to grow.

Northfield School has been a Sports College for over fourteen years and during this time it has developed a wide range of sports related programmes after school. As a result, our sporting extra-curricular offer is excellent. Our facilities are amongst the best in the North East. Four indoor working areas including a Sports Hall, Table Tennis arena, Dance Studio and a traditional gym. Participation levels in extra-curricular activities is an important part of the school’s sporting success.
