Author, Artist and Animator Niel Bushnell Inspires Students
Niel Bushnell is a local artist, animator and award-winning science-fiction and fantasy author. His books include Sorrowline and Timesmith, and a YA novel called Altitude. He visited Northfield as part of our week long 10th Birthday celebrations. Firstly speaking to all Year 7 and 8 students about his life, his art, his work in animation for TV and computer games and his books. Sorrowline and Timesmith are about time travel. Stockton Primary Athletics Event
On Monday 12th March Northfield's School Sports Partnership ran the Stockton Primary Athletics event at Preston Park. The event had ex Northfield student and World indoor 60m record holder, Richard Kilty, as the special guest who gave out the medals to all the successful pupils. Almost 500 pupils ran the event from year 4 to year 6 and did remarkably well on one of the wettest days of the year. The successful students will go on to represent Stockton at the Tees Valley finals after Easter.
Teesside School Council Awards Evening
Northfield School had 31 students nominated for the prestigious Teesside School Council Awards evening that took place at Northfield School on Wednesday 7th March. All of these students have reached National standard or above in their chosen sport. Our guest speaker, Matt Turnbull from Hartlepool, is a triathlete & Iron man competitor. He told his story of how he completed 7 iron men competitions in 7 days raising £10,000 for charity.All the students were presented with a certificate on the evening, however there is an overall winner from the 3 main categories of best achieving male, female and team. Northfield Ice Hockey Star!
Ben Greenhalgh, aged 12 and a Year 8 pupil has recently been named in the England U13 Ice Hockey Team who will travel to Bratislava, Slovakia on the 2nd April this year for a five day training camp and a series of competitive games.Ben was selected as one of six defencemen who along with twelve forwards and three netminders make up the U13 team that will travel to Slovakia along with the England U14 and U15 Boys Teams and England Girls U14 and U17.England recognition is a fantastic achievement for Ben who first started playing Ice Hockey aged 7. Northfield School Shown In Lights Around Twickenham Stadium
As part of Northfield School's involvement with the RFU, Tom, in year 7, spent a day at Twickenham at the England-Wales game. He received coaching from the England U18 coach, walked out onto the pitch as one of the flag bearers and then watched the game. As you can see from the photos Northfield School was shown in lights around the stadium. Tom had a fantastic day and we are now waiting for our own school set of Rugby shirts that Tom helped to design.
