Northfield Students Win Business Competition at Stockton Sixth Form College

On Thursday 15th June, a group of year 9 and 10 students traveled to Stockton Sixth Form College to take part in a Business competition which was run by ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales). They worked in teams of 6 and had to develop ideas for a new ‘Smoothie’ making business. They were competing against a range of local schools and both Northfield groups did extremely well. Year 10 Mock Interviews at St James’ Park - Tuesday 13th June

A group of year 10 students travelled to St James’ Park in Newcastle on Tuesday to take part in a series of mock interviews as part of the ‘employability skills’ programme that we have been running throughout the year.The event was organised by Esh Group plc and included over 60 business panels and thousands of students from schools across the north east.Our students did a fantastic job and impressed the interviewers with their maturity and calmness throughout what can be a very stressful process. Year 7 Solar System Project

The Year 7 Science classes at Northfield have been looking beyond our skies and in to outer space to research and create the Solar System. They conducted investigations and worked collaboratively to examine everything within our own Solar System. Students discovered that it mainly consists of a hard vacuum containing a low density of particles, with electromagnetic radiation, magnetic fields, dust, neutrinos, and cosmic rays. Y11 Student, Archie Harbottle, Successfully Gains Place at National Youth Theatre

Y11 GCSE Drama student Archie Harbottle has successfully been offered a place at the esteemed National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. Archie attended the audition, accompanied by his drama teacher, which was composed of a performance workshop, one to one interview and audition speech, in Newcastle in February. Over 10,000 young people attend the nationwide auditions with only 300 applicants gaining a place. Regional Panathlon Finals

On Tuesday 6th June I had the privilege to take 13 year 9 sports leaders to the Regional Panathlon Swimming Finals held at Ponds Forge National Swimming Centre in Sheffield. They were selected to attend the event by Tony Waymouth (lead Panathlon sports co-ordinator) due to their outstanding leadership at a previous event. The leaders ran the event and were even in the pool to help the disabled competitors feel safe and offer encouragement to them.
