Choose respect!

This year’s Diversity Week will be taking place during the week of 12th – 16th November when we will be following the national theme of ‘Choose respect’.We will be raising awareness in assemblies, displays around school, activities in lessons and Morning Form Time in addition to having fun whilst raising funds for Children in Need. Although we are raising awareness of respect for ALL members of our community, our special focus this year is raising awareness of respect and support for our LGBT+ community – so rainbows will be the order of the day!

Year 7 Restart a Heart Event

On Tuesday 16th October 290 year 7 students were trained to give CPR. This was part of an international campaign which aimed to train thousands of young people in one day. The ability to restart a heart is incredibly important and saves thousands of lives every year. The year 7 students were all excellent and whilst we hope they never have to use their new skills we are sure that they are capable.

Northfield School Students Meet Author Robin Stevens

On Tuesday 9th October members of our Library Café group became detectives for the morning when they met murder mystery author Robin Stevens at Conyers School. Bestselling author Robin was touring the country to promote the 8th book in her popular ‘Murder Most Unladylike’ series, ‘Death in the Spotlight’. She talked to students about how her childhood in Oxford and her time at boarding school inspired her series about Daisy and Hazel who solve crimes when the adults don’t believe them. BAE Systems STEM Roadshow

On Thursday 11th October, BAE systems visited Northfield school to deliver their new roadshow “It’s a Numbers game” to Y7 and Y8 students. The Roadshow was devised in response to the Government's acknowledgement that there is already a shortfall of ‘home grown’ scientists and engineers to meet the needs of the country and by capturing the interest of young people aged 10 – 13, we can hopefully increase the numbers that take STEM subjects and ultimately increase the pool of talent in years to come. Author Bryony Pearce Visits Northfield School

Horror and fantasy writer, Bryony Pearce, visited Northfield on Friday 12th October before appearing at Stockton Libraries ‘Fright Night’! Bryony spoke enthusiastically to Year 8 about the benefits of reading and gave tips on how to be a writer and how she finds inspiration for her books.She read from her latest book ‘Savage Island’ which tells the story of a group of teenagers who find themselves in the terrifying position of ‘hunt or be hunted’.
