STEM Club Visit to Suez Recycling and Recovery Plant

On Tuesday 17th April Y7 & Y8 STEM club students visited Suez recycling and recovery plant at Haverton Hill to learn about how they create energy from waste. Suez provides innovative and environmentally-responsible solutions for the waste generated by households and businesses. During the visit students got a tour of the waste bunker, flue gas treatment and furnace fire. STEM club trip to EDF nuclear power station

On Monday 26th March, 29 STEM club students in Y7 & Y8 visited the EDF Nuclear Power Station in Hartlepool. Students got the exciting opportunity to see inside the Nuclear Power Station during a tour where they visited the turbine hall; home to two electromagnet generators, the cooling water pump house and the emergency garages. On the afternoon students took part in ‘Pretty curious’ workshop to challenge their perceptions of STEM and to be inspired to pursue STEM based careers. STEM – Race for the Line

On Thursday the 22nd March all Y7 students took part in the qualifying stage of ‘Race for the Line’. The competition is intended to inspire tomorrow’s engineers and scientists with a national rocket car racing competition involving around 70,000 Year 7 students in England, Scotland and Wales. In Technology lessons students manufactured their rocket car, looked at coding a Micro bit which was used as a timing gate on race day, designed a team logo and looked at how Maths and Science is useful in calculating speed in order to improve performance. Author, Artist and Animator Niel Bushnell Inspires Students

Niel Bushnell is a local artist, animator and award-winning science-fiction and fantasy author. His books include Sorrowline and Timesmith, and a YA novel called Altitude. He visited Northfield as part of our week long 10th Birthday celebrations. Firstly speaking to all Year 7 and 8 students about his life, his art, his work in animation for TV and computer games and his books. Sorrowline and Timesmith are about time travel. Stockton Primary Athletics Event

On Monday 12th March Northfield's School Sports Partnership ran the Stockton Primary Athletics event at Preston Park. The event had ex Northfield student and World indoor 60m record holder, Richard Kilty, as the special guest who gave out the medals to all the successful pupils. Almost 500 pupils ran the event from year 4 to year 6 and did remarkably well on one of the wettest days of the year. The successful students will go on to represent Stockton at the Tees Valley finals after Easter.
