Author Bryony Pearce Visits Northfield School

Horror and fantasy writer, Bryony Pearce, visited Northfield on Friday 12th October before appearing at Stockton Libraries ‘Fright Night’! Bryony spoke enthusiastically to Year 8 about the benefits of reading and gave tips on how to be a writer and how she finds inspiration for her books.She read from her latest book ‘Savage Island’ which tells the story of a group of teenagers who find themselves in the terrifying position of ‘hunt or be hunted’. English Achievement Reward Points

This academic year the ENGLISH department have introduced a unique reward scheme to the students when studying English. Students can now collect E.A.R.P.S (English Achievement Reward Points) for a variety of work from handing in homework to producing excellent work or simply doing their best in lessons. These can be cashed in for rewards on a regular basis, ranging from 'lucky dip' to 'queue jumping passes' to 'free meals'. Congratulations Mrs Carol Harcourt! Winner of the National Teaching Assistants’ Day Competition 2018

National Teaching Assistants' Day falls on the 14th of September and was created to recognise the valuable contribution Teaching Assistants make to the education and support of school children across the UK. To celebrate the day, schools were given the opportunity to nominate a teaching assistant that they believe goes above and beyond every day and deserves rewarding. Year 7 Ecology Lecture About Bees

Year 7 got busy this week with a guest lecturer Mr “Bee Man” Mace. As part of the ecology topic they got to examine a hive up close and learn more about the importance of bees as part of our food chains. They also got to taste some home grown local honey. Year 11 College Market Place

On Monday 1st October year 11 students got the opportunity to collect information from a number of local colleges and apprenticeship providers. The event was set up as a market place in the school hall and groups of students were given time to talk to college representatives and ask questions regarding their future education.The students collected leaflets and prospectuses which will hopefully help them to decide which colleges and courses to apply for.
