Author, Peter J Murray, Visits Northfield School

Creepy music and scary skulls greeted Y7 students as they entered the hall to take part in a spooky performance by award winning children’s author, Peter J Murray. Peter took Y7 on an epic Viking journey, which was inspired by a trip to the Jorvik Centre in York.His latest series tells how Billy’s holiday takes a terrifying turn when the ghost of a ruthless Viking warrior returns. Year 8 Debate Team

On Thursday 13th December, Northfield launched this year’s Year 8 Debate Team. Twenty one Year 8s were off timetable, learning about the history of parliament and the democratic process through games and activities. The day culminated in a formal debate, chaired by Mr Henderson, arguing whether the National Curriculum needs to place more emphasis on life skills. Mr Henderson gave extremely positive feedback to both groups, commenting on their maturity and etiquette when debating, and their public speaking skills and capability when challenging. Year 8 and 9 Students Come 4th in National Panathlon Event

Six Year 8 and 9 students competed in the 2018 Panathlon event at the fantastic London Olympics Aquatics Centre on 22 November 2018.Having previously won the Tees Valley event and finishing 3rd in the North East event the team qualified for the National Finals where they finished 4th!

Choose respect!

This year’s Diversity Week will be taking place during the week of 12th – 16th November when we will be following the national theme of ‘Choose respect’.We will be raising awareness in assemblies, displays around school, activities in lessons and Morning Form Time in addition to having fun whilst raising funds for Children in Need. Although we are raising awareness of respect for ALL members of our community, our special focus this year is raising awareness of respect and support for our LGBT+ community – so rainbows will be the order of the day!

Year 7 Restart a Heart Event

On Tuesday 16th October 290 year 7 students were trained to give CPR. This was part of an international campaign which aimed to train thousands of young people in one day. The ability to restart a heart is incredibly important and saves thousands of lives every year. The year 7 students were all excellent and whilst we hope they never have to use their new skills we are sure that they are capable.
