Northfield students join in with BBC Authors Live Event

On the 4th October Northfield's News Team and Year 9 Book Group participated in an online training event organised by BBC Scotland and The Scottish Book Trust.

The event, which is hosted by BBC Scotland, focused on young adult fiction and vlogging. This allowed students to listen to a live chat between Authors Melvin Burgess, Jean Menzies and Non Pratt and have questions answered about Young Adult Fiction via a twitter feed.

Over 100 schools took part nationally and our students enjoyed watching the discussion for the first time. After we watched the 40-minute live video we then utilised the training video provided by Author/Vlogger Jean Menzies which was about creating our own vlogs. The students gained basic knowledge and understanding about the technology needed to create a vlog and helpful tips on picking topics. Our enthusiastic students worked in small groups discussing how we could develop vlogging in Northfield and have started work on producing their own ideas including topics such as book recommendations, school events and success stories and developing outside the box design ideas such as animation.

The students certainly gained a lot of knowledge and ideas from the session and are now looking forward to producing their own vlogs to showcase what they are doing in their various clubs and activites. We look forward to seeing their work around school.
