Remembering Mrs Harcourt

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of Carol Harcourt. This has come as a terrible shock to us all. Carol was  loved by all staff, students, parents, members of the community and governors and this represents a devastating loss for the school.

All of our thoughts are with Carol’s family and friends at this most difficult of times.

Throughout the 18 years that she worked at the school as an LSA, Carol’s commitment to the school was exceptional.  She was a brilliant member of staff. Carol improved the life chances of numerous students during her time in the school and went the extra mile for each and every one of them.  Carol was able to foster, via her dedication, really strong links with parents which had a really positive impact upon the students’ time in school.  She was so popular with students in the Learning Zone and did such brilliant work supporting them with breakfast and homework clubs.

Carol regularly gave up her weekends to support students and staff on the Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and was always there to support with concerts, productions and fairs to name but a few.  She really was the heart of the school.

Earlier this year, to celebrate National Teaching Assistants’ Day, we nominated Carol for the award of Teaching Assistant of the Year; this national award was created to recognise the valuable contribution Teaching Assistants make to the education and support of children across the UK.  We were absolutely delighted that she was chosen from several nominations across the country as the winner.  Carol was thrilled yet massively humbled to win the award and that is why she was so deserving.

Carol was a dear colleague and friend who was dedicated to the students and staff of Northfield School and Sports College.  She will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
