Teesside Student Librarian Awards 2018
On Tuesday 24th April students from Northfield School, along with parents and staff, attended the 19th annual Student Librarian Awards Ceremony, which was held at St. Hild’s Church of England School in Hartlepool. This year 19 of Northfield students have completed either the Student Librarian Training Scheme or Advanced Student Librarian Training Scheme and were invited to receive their certificates, presented by bestselling children’s author Dan Smith at the awards ceremony.
The training scheme is unique to the Teesside area and has received recognition from the National Literacy Trust. Student librarians from 12 secondary schools across the area attended the ceremony organised by Kay Ross of School Library Support. Northfield’s school library could not run without the support of the student librarians who all volunteer on a weekly basis to help in the library. To achieve their awards students developed their library skills through completing a set of worksheets, writing book reviews, planning and putting together a library display and user guide. The advanced award includes modules on customer care, mentoring and a creative project in the library.
Training Scheme Award: Y8 Sam, Ben, Max, Ruby, Oliver, Sam, Alfie, Ted, Lucy, Alhussain and Jade.
Advanced Award: Y9 Cameron, Justin, Kelsey, Harry, Ellie, Adam, Adrianna, Lydia.
