Year 6 STEM Experience
On Tuesday 27Th June, Northfield’s Science department hosted a primary science induction event for y6 students from The Glebe, Pentland School, Billingham South Community Primary School and St Paul’s RC Primary School. The event was designed to help ease transition into Northfield in September, encourage team work and collaboration and most importantly to promote the importance of STEM.
Students were challenged to build a spaghetti tower which could stand for 1 minute on its own. Out of 6 towers built, 5 managed to stand for 1 minute with the tallest one being 67cm tall!
Northfield’s Science Leaders Mia and Corey lead an exciting practical activity where the primary students reacted chemicals in order to make elephant’s toothpaste. Other y7 Science club members and Y8 Peer Supporters helped facilitate the activity.
Overall, the afternoon was a huge success with primary students saying:
“The best induction event so far!”
“It was really fun especially the elephants toothpaste”
“Amazing and interesting”
They thanked Northfield Science Leaders and Peer Supporters for leading it.
