LGBT+ at Northfield
Young people have a lot to think about growing up. Exploring their sexual orientation or gender identity should be a positive experience for all young people, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans young people. However, it isn’t always easy to know how to best support a young person as they begin to think about who they are nor obvious to make sure they have everything they need to develop and flourish. This area is here to help you to take the first steps to support our young people. It contains information about our GSA and contact details for support groups – both local and national. Paper copies of the leaflets can be obtained from the stand in the main school foyer.
Northfield School has a support group or GSA (GAY Straight Alliance) who meet every Thursday in Room 138 at 12.40pm. We offer advice, website recommendations and a supportive environment for everyone, regardless of their sexuality or gender. Last year the GSA created presentations about LGBTQ+ History Month, Pride Month, and a lesson teaching Year 7s and 8s about sexuality in PSHE.
Northfield School Library also has a number of books related to LGBTQ+ - both fiction and non-fiction. A list of the books is available from the stand in the main school foyer.
