Transition FAQs

Please feel free to browse our website where many of your questions will be answered. We have also included a list of Transition FAQs that you may find helpful:

How will my child know where to go on the first day?

There will be plenty of staff on hand to meet your child at the Year 7 entrance. They will ensure that they are directed to the right place.

Will my child need PE kit on the first day?

No, if your child has a PE lesson on their first day this will not involve changing into kit.

How will my child get his / her lunch?

Year 7 pupils (including those wishing to bring a packed lunch) will eat their lunch in the Year 7 Dining Hall. They will pay for their lunch using a thumb print (or numerical code) linked to their account which you can top up in advance. Pupils can also use the cash machines located in the Year 7 School to top up their own accounts. There will be time on the first morning of term to set up individual pupil accounts. Until then, money cannot be added electronically so pupils will need to bring cash for the first day. A main meal and dessert can be purchased for £2.15. If your child is currently eligible for Free School Meals this information will be on our system and your child will receive their entitlement from the first day of term.

Where can I get uniform?

Northfield School’s uniform suppliers are Elizabeth’s Embroidery and Rawcliffe's Schoolwear. Items of uniform can be ordered online or over the phone and collected from stores. Contact information for our uniform suppliers can be found on our School Uniform page.

What equipment will my child need?

It is important that your child arrives at school prepared for learning. Pupils should have a minimum of a pen, pencil and ruler. Regular equipment checks are carried out to ensure that this is the case. A pencil case and additional equipment such as a rubber, coloured pencils, a sharpener and glue stick are strongly encouraged. There is also an expectation that your child brings a bag to school each day.

Where can my child find out about extra-curricular activities?

There are many enrichment activities on offer to your child. Participation is a fantastic way to make new friends and develop a sense of belonging. Our Year 7 Enrichment Programme is launched in the first few weeks of term through assembly and Morning Form Time. All Year 7 pupils are expected to sign up to at least one enrichment activity. Those wishing to participate in a lunchtime activity can take advantage of our ‘Grab and Go’ system which will allow them to pre-order a packed lunch and take their food with them.

What time does my child need to be at school on the first day?

The school day starts at 8.45 am. Year 7 pupils should aim to arrive on or before this time. See our School Day page for more information about lesson times.

Where can I find key dates and information?

Key dates and information can be found on our school website. You will find that the Parent Information section is a good place to start.

Who should I go to if I have a concern about my son / daughter?

All members of staff have responsibility for the welfare of pupils, however, if you have any concerns about your child please speak to the Year 7 Guidance Team in the first instance.

If you have any questions that have not been answered or that are personal to your child please email
