📚 June Library Round-Up – 'Keep Reading' 📖✨ This month it's been all about sport ⚽🏏🏀 at Northfield Library with our displays and competition for the start of the World Cup 🌍🏆. We also have books whatever sport pupils are into as part of the National Year of Reading's Summer of Sport 📚💪. 📖 4th–12th June we took part in the Empathy Festival ❤️ with the theme 'Jump into Someone Else's Story', encouraging young people to 'read for empathy'. We showcased a fantastic range of books from their recommended reading lists, and our Book Club joined online with authors Matt Goodfellow and Manjeet Mann, sharing their books and discussing the importance of connection. 💬📚 🌈 A display was created to celebrate Pride Month with books from our GSA recommended reading list. 📖🏳️‍🌈 🌍 15th–21st June we highlighted Refugee Week with the theme 'Courage' 💛 and a display of books endorsed by Amnesty International. Also this week was Learning Disability Week with the theme 'Do you see me?' 💙, raising awareness for people with learning disabilities to be seen, heard and valued. 🌞 Other displays have commemorated D-Day, the Summer Solstice and World Environment Day 🌿. 🔬💡 Northfield Students Take Part in Teesside STEM Challenge 🤖🧪 On Friday 26th June, 12 Year 8 and Year 9 students from Northfield attended the Teesside STEM Challenge Day at Middlesbrough College with Miss Robertson. 👏🎓 Students took part in a range of exciting STEM activities, including a 🕵️ forensic investigation, 🩺 diagnosing a patient and 🤖 programming a robot. This June at Northfield, we’ve been proud to celebrate Pride Month together as a school community. From flying the Progress Pride Flag to a virtual assembly, a “Read with Pride” display in the Library, and a GSA Pride Party, we’ve taken time to reflect, learn and celebrate 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Today marked our annual Pride Day, with pupils and staff showing their support by wearing a rainbow-coloured accessory and enjoying some delicious rainbow cakes at lunchtime 🌈🎂 At Northfield, Pride is about respect, visibility, acceptance, allyship, belonging and human rights – principles we are proud to uphold in our school community.
