School Uniform
Northfield is firmly committed to maintaining a smart and distinctive school uniform. We believe that wearing a school uniform promotes high standards, supports positive behaviour and fosters a sense of belonging and pride in our school community.
All approved uniform items may be worn by any pupil. Pupils are welcome to choose the combination of approved uniform items in which they feel most comfortable, provided the school’s uniform expectations are met.
If, at any time, a pupil is unable to wear full school uniform, a note should be provided to their Head of Year.
Jewellery
Pupils may wear a watch only. No other jewellery is permitted. Watches must be removed for PE lessons.
Hairstyles
Hairstyles should be appropriate for a school environment (extreme hairstyles are not permitted). Long hair must be tied back for practical subjects, including PE.
Personal Property
All school clothing and personal belongings should be clearly labelled with the pupil’s name. While every effort is made to safeguard pupils’ personal property, the school cannot accept liability for loss or damage.
Representing Northfield
The image created by pupils travelling within the local community, to and from school, is important particularly in the eyes of the public. Outdoor clothing must therefore be appropriate for school.
School Uniform
From September 2026, secondary schools should limit the number of compulsory branded uniform and PE kit items to four items or fewer (including the school tie).
Everyday Uniform
All pupils must carry a bag that is suitable for school.
Pupils are expected to wear:
- black blazer with the Northfield logo
- plain white shirt with a top button (long or short sleeves)
- school tie*
- black school shoes**
In addition, pupils may choose to wear either: - dark grey school trousers with black socks, or
- the Northfield tartan pleated skirt with black tights (no leggings)
An optional black V-neck jumper with the Northfield logo may be worn underneath the blazer.
* Each year group is assigned a specific tie colour, which will remain the same throughout their time at Northfield:

PE Uniform
For PE lessons and sports clubs, pupils are expected to wear:
- PE shirt with the Northfield logo*
- sports trainers (no restrictions on colour)
In addition, pupils may choose to wear either:
- black PE shorts of an appropriate length (no cycling shorts), or
- black sports leggings
The following optional items may also be worn:
- plain black sports ¼ zip top
- ¼ zip top with the Northfield logo**
- black tracksuit bottoms
- football boots (where appropriate)
* From September 2026, a new collarless PE shirt with the Northfield logo is available for all pupils. This will be introduced gradually, and pupils may continue to wear previously purchased red or black collared PE shirts during this transition period.
** A new ¼ zip top with the Northfield logo is also available but is optional – pupils may choose to wear a plain black ¼ zip top instead.
A summary of the school uniform worn by pupils at Northfield:
Compulsory school-branded items:
- black blazer with the Northfield logo
- school tie (each year group has a specific colour – see table above)
- PE shirt with the Northfield logo
Optional school-branded items:
- black V-neck jumper with the Northfield logo
- the Northfield tartan pleated skirt
- ¼ zip PE top with the Northfield logo

Financial Support
We appreciate that the cost of purchasing school uniform can place a strain on some household budgets. In such instances, we may be able to provide assistance. The school will consider requests for assistance for the following group of students:
- students in receipt of free school meals
- students with disabilities
- students who are or have been in care
- students from families who are experiencing exceptional circumstances leading to financial difficulties

Recycled Uniform
Our Uniform Exchange
We would encourage all parents to donate items of used uniform to us when the opportunity allows. We generally have a stock of recycled uniform items that are kindly donated by our parents and this allows us to make these items available to other students either at a significantly reduced cost or, in some cases, free of charge.
As part of our commitment to supporting parents with uniform costs – all families can exchange uniform that no longer fits with bigger sizes kept by the school. This is at no cost to families. For more information, please contact familysupportworker@northfieldssc.org
