On Thursday 26th September, the whole of Year 7 were treated to an educational and entertaining STEM roadshow delivered by BAE systems. BAE Systems plc aim to inspire future generations of STEM engineers through their performances, with the theme of the 2024 show being Electricity.

BAE Systems, the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy employ more than 50,000 engineers across the UK. They are committed to engaging with young people on STEM activities to encourage and support a highly skilled workforce in the future. This year’s show explored what electricity is and how we generate it with multimedia and interactive demonstrations.

Pupils were invited on stage to create a simple circuit and explore the pros and cons of different energy sources. To end the show, Mr Bimson was invited onto stage to use pedal power to generate electricity to light up the LED windmill.

He pedalled fast enough to reach the maximum voltage of electricity, much to the delight of all the pupils! Our pupils were engaged by the exciting displays of what could be the beginning of their future careers in STEM.
