New KS3 D&D Club
BackThis week we’ve started some new D&D games!
At the start of term we began creating new characters with our KS3 pupils, with the help of some Year 9 volunteers.
Developing Creative and Mathematical Skills
Our pupils were given free reign to create any characters they liked, whilst being prompted to think of backstories that led their characters to their current point in the game.
D&D is a great way to develop creativity through storytelling, and improves problem-solving skills as pupils face hypothetical puzzles and trials throughout their stories.
Some Year 9 D&D players volunteered to help our KS3 pupils create detailed character sheets, with some even running games for the younger pupils!
Maths plays a big role in the game too; ‘combat’ includes dice rolling, stats and odds to decide if player's attempts to outsmart and evade villains actually succeeds.
Building Confidence and Friendships
It's also an excellent way to make friends and build confidence through interacting as fictional characters. One of our pupils even celebrated her birthday with us in D&D club!
Watching our older pupils running the games has already inspired some of our Year 7 and Year 8 pupils to run their own games within the club. They're very keen to learn from each other and have been quick to welcome new pupils into their games.
Our KS3 D&D club runs every Wednesday, with multiple games happening at once. If you're interested in running your own game at school, speak to Mr Henderson.
