Martin Cosser Talk on Knife Crime
Back
On Tuesday 4th March the school was visited by Martin Cosser, who delivered an incredibly powerful talk on the impact of knife crime.
Martin spoke from his own experiences as his son was the victim of knife crime at the age of 17 and sadly died. Martin talked about the events that led up to the stabbing of his son, Charlie, and the impact it had on family and friends and some of the worrying knife crime statistics in this local area. The night Charlie was murdered there were three missed opportunities to prevent the stabbing because nobody would speak up and report what they had seen.
The talk was very informative and educational with advice on what to do should a pupil hear of or come face to face with a knife carrier. The pupils were signposted to an organisation called Fearless (part of Crimestoppers) and told how to report knife carriers anonymously.
We are incredibly grateful to Martin for coming in and speaking to our pupils, so openly, on such an important topic.
Martin and his family set up a charity called 'Charlies Promise' aiming to improve education on knife crime and help to influence government policy. If you would like to find out more information about 'Charlie's Promise' please look at the links below:
