Business is an exciting and dynamic course which examines how businesses work internally, and how they respond to changes in the wider world. Students learn a range of skills in marketing, finance, operations and human resources.
What will I study in Business?
Business activity, marketing and people
Students are introduced to business concepts and issues concerning the activities of a business. They explore the purpose and role of a business from spotting an opportunity through to the growth of an established business. They also look at the role of marketing and human resources.
Operations, finance and influences on business
Students take a closer look at the role of operations and finance in business activity. Operations include production processes, quality of goods and services, customer service, and working with suppliers. Finance covers its role, its sources, costs, profit and loss, cash and cash flow.
They also explore how business responds to external influences, such as ethical and environmental considerations, the economic climate and globalisation, and the interdependent nature of business.
Aims
Business aims to give pupils the confidence to:
- Understand the business world which they will enter after finishing school/college/university.
- Make informed decisions and put forward arguments to persuade others.
- Gain the knowledge to help you set up a business of their own.
- Learn skills such as evaluation and problem solving that will be useful in a number of other subjects.
- Continue to study on either a vocational qualification or an A level subject, such as economics, accountancy or of course A level business
